WHAT’S THE WORD WITH LOWER EXTREMITY RECONSTRUCTION?
What Does Lower Extremity Reconstruction Involve?
Lower extremity reconstruction can be as simple as topical wound care to something more complicated as transplanting tissue from one part of the body to the lower extremity. In some instances, skin grafting, surgery, or free-flap reconstruction may be recommended. We will help you properly prepare.
How To Tell If Reconstruction Is Right For Me
The first thing you should do if you are injured is to thoroughly clean the area and disinfect it. Then, based on the complexity of the wound, we may recommend surgery or another form of reconstruction. Typically, patients who get reconstruction suffer from:
Infection
Fractures
Skin and tissue loss
Exposed orthopedic hardware
Bone tumors
Vascular or metabolic diseases
Osteomyelitis
Rheumatoid arthritis
WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF RECONSTRUCTION?
Here at Dominion Plastic Surgery, we strive to provide our patients with the best results possible. The hope of getting reconstructive surgery is that we will restore limb function, salvage limbs, cover vital structures, and help with the overall appearance of the limb following infection, disease, arthritis, nonhealing wounds, or injury.
